M. Waqar Mohmand

Dr. Mohmand is a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist who joined Pivot Point Counseling Services after working as Regional Medical Director at Pressley Ridge Outpatient Clinics for 3 years, while maintaining a part-time Private Practice. He started working on an Outpatient basis after a 20 plus year career on the Inpatient Units at Sheppard Pratt. He is double Board Certified in General as well as Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Additionally, he has a Master’s in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University and holds faculty appointment at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore (Clinical Assistant Professor). At Sheppard Pratt, Dr Mohmand worked as Service Chief on the Children's unit; prior to that he served as Service Chief of the Adolescent female unit and previously had served as Medical Director at the Eleanor Berkeley and Mann Residential Treatment Center.
Dr. Mohmand trained at the University of Maryland / Sheppard Pratt Hospital, where he completed his Child fellowship in 2004 and finished his Residency training prior to that in 2002, also at University of Maryland / Sheppard Pratt Hospital. He was Chief Fellow during his fellowship training and served as Chief Resident in his senior year of Residency training at Sheppard Pratt. He is now interested in using his Psychotherapy training along with Psychopharmacology to help his patients and their families. He follows the Biopsychosocial Model and approaches patient care in a holistic manner to provide the best personalized care. His areas of interest are Mood Disorders, Anxiety, Sports Psychiatry, ADHD, Autism and Cultural Psychiatry. He is also interested in helping patients with weight management, whether due to metabolic syndrome, bulimia, or other eating disorders.
Dr. Mohmand lives on a small farm on Butler Road with his wife, their 4 children and two German Shepherd dogs. He enjoys playing tennis, pickle ball, working on his garden and maintaining the lawn. He likes traveling and learning about other countries and cultures.
